Canberra could be in for more wild weather

Category: Capital Radio News

Canberra could be hit by a third weather system today after the Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds.

Branches could be blown off trees and fire-weakened trees knocked down, with winds in the city forecast to reach up to 70 kilometres per hour.

It comes as the capital continues to clean up following Monday's freak hail storm, which has already seen 15 thousand insurance claims lodged in the territory.

The storm was so fierce that solar panels designed to withstand hailstorms were broken.

The ACT ESA has now received more than 2,040 calls for help, but over 14 hundred jobs remain outstanding.

Volunteers from New South Wales State Emergency Service have arrived overnight to help respond to all the calls for assistance.
