A new ACT Policing team focused on crime prevention, problem-solving and crime disruption will hit the streets of Canberra next month.

The first team of ten will be on the ground in September, with additional teams starting over the next two years.

The new policing model, worth almost 34 million dollars, will see more than 60 staff join ACT Policing.

Chief Police Officer Neil Gaughan says rather than reacting to crime as it occurs, the new service model will address known risks before they cause wide-spread harm to the community.
